Eurovision First impressions

Here are my first impressions of this years competitors in the Eurovision Song Contest.

These first 10 will be the first to perform in the first Semi Final on Tuesday 12th May

Montenegro 65/100

Abba wannabe. Reminiscent of last years entry from Andorra, though not as memorable as that because she isn't wearing bronze body armour and horns.

Czech Republic 1/100 (and therefore exactly what Eurovision is all about!)

Imagine a rapping Gipsy dressed as Superman, pretending to have his eye poked out by a violinist... Ta dah! There you have the Czech entry, but not I suspect in the final.

Belgium 9/100

A Belgian Alvin Stardust... Does it get any more lame?

Belarus 40/100

Central European ssssssssssssssssoft rock. Competent but not very inspiring.

Sweden 21/100

This Pop-Opera effort is often screeched out of tune and is nowhere near as good as Slovenia's effort in this genre from two years ago.

Armenia 67/100

High School Musical meets Armenian nose bagpipes. High energy and pretty catchy. I sense from the video that Armenia is beginning to reach a Malta-esque state of desperation to win this Contest... Give them two more years and they probably will.

Andorra 32/100

Instantly forgettable pop.

Switzerland 12/100

Swiss U2 and Coldplay wannabees mumble their way through a pretty dire effort. Still better than Coldplay's last album though.

Turkey 72/100

6 gold lamé bikini clad belly dancers will be huge on the night. Highly reminiscent of last years 'Shady Lady', this will be a Top 5 finish.

Israel 26 /100

I have discovered it is possible to forget you are listening to a song half through doing just that. This is competently sung but quite dull.
