Bidding

Today the news was full of the launch of England's bid to host the 2018 football World Cup. These processes always catch my eye and I tend to follow them and it got me thinking...

London rubbed Paris’ face in it big time to be selected at the first ever City to host the Olympics three times in the modern era. With those games three years away, the IOC will meet later on this year to decide who will follow in London’s footsteps to host the Games in 2016. Chicago is a hot favourite despite the atrocious hosting provided by Atlanta 1996 and the bribery scandal that rocked Salt Lake 2002. Tokyo and Madrid are preparing bids that look like more like positioning dry runs for the next Asian and European hosting opportunity. But by 2050, which cities do we want to look back on and have seen host a games?

Rio de Janeiro
Cape Town
Budapest
Delhi
Buenos Aires
Cairo
Shanghai
Seattle / Vancouver
Istanbul
Havana

What thoughts? What other ideas?

  1. Seattle would be GRRRRREAT but you can FORGET the Americans collaborating with the Canadians on having it with Vancouver. The border crossing is shit for foreigners so that would also be an obstacle. So I would vote Seattle/Portland.

  2. Seattle /Vancouver ARE planning a joint bid for the 2028 games. If Obama's plans for a high speed rail corridor come to fruition, then all you need to do is declare some kind of free movement and customs free 'Olympic Zone' for the duration of the games and you're there.

  4. Brisbane/Gold Coast, although they are planning to bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games...
    Doha
    Rio De Janeiro
    Rome
