Country 70: North Korea: Persecutor As Victim

I visited North Korea last Summer. This is a picture of the border with the South, taken from the Northern side. Inside the huts are where the negotiations took place to bring about the truce which the North Koreans this week have aserted no longer applies to them.

North Korea is the typical 'persecutor as victim' psychological type. Despite all their tantrums and their behaviour causing all the problems they face, they never accept it because they can't get past the fact that they are the victim in every situation. NK likes to see the US as the persecutor and China plays the constant role of rescuer in this triangular relationship.

As I stood on the North Korean side of the DMZ border, I thought to myself how powerful it would be if the US and South Korean troops simply laid their weapons down, offered to shake hands with the North Korean troops and then walked away. This should be followed up by leaflet bombing of the country, informing the North Korean populace that the US and South Korean governement were declaring a unilateral end to the war, and the border with the South was now open for people to cross without restriction.

Communicate directly and immediately with the NK populace that their perception of their international political relaity has been turned on it's head, and throw the problem of trying to stop the population heading South into the hands of the NK regime.
