Japan And Attitudes To The Elderly

This is a continuation of my diary from my RTW trip from November 2003.

As I’ve wandered round Japan, we’ve come across something I had not expected to see at all.

Homelessness.

There are quite a few homeless people in this ordered society. They are typically elderly people, who just look abandoned, and they sit demurely and downcast while it rains on them.

I am surprised. I hadn't expected any homelessness here, let alone to see the abandoned, lonely and ignored on the streets are all elderly.
