Pool Review 4: Andrew 'Boy' Charlton Pool @ Wooloomooloo

Andrew 'Boy' Charlton Pool @ Wooloomooloo 37/50

A beautiful outdoor pool, secluded from the Botanical Gardens with beautiful walls in the modern style. This place will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first 50m pool I ever swam in. Needless to say it was not as big as I remembered it!

Costs:6/10
  • Charge for entry: $5.50 for a swim
  • Charge for locker $3.
  • Charge for hot water: FREE!
Hygiene: 10/10
  • Smart, clean, well looked after
Water: 8/10
  • Salty which led to a certain amount of chafing under the armpits, which I remembered from last time.
  • Pool temperature was a lovely 26 degrees at twilight this evening.
Setting: 8/10
  • By the Botanical Gardens with a view over a recently renovated wharf, some apartment towers and the naval station. Not a classic Sydney view, but unmistakably not the Tooting Municipal Lido!
  • At twilight several thousand fruit bats left their roosts in the Botanical Gardens and flew overhead. 'Fly my pretties fly!'
  • Tucked away by Macquarie Point, this is a 20 minute walk either from Circular Quay or the South Side of Hyde Park
Other Facilities 5/10
  • Chill out deck by the pool with great views of harbour is also in full sunlight during the day and a complete burn trap for me.
