Pool Review 2: Olympic Pool North @ Milson's Point

Olympic Pool North 12/50

Blimey. It is only when you go somewhere bad that you realise what is good about a service that you just take for granted. How the hell can you charge for hot water in the showers, especially when you have to share them with cockroaches? Still, it has to have the best view of any pool in the World.

Costs: 0/10
  • Charge for entry: $8 High
  • Charge for locker $6.50 and you get $2 back when you return the key.
  • Charge for hot water (yes, seriously!) $2 for 3 minutes.
Hygiene: 0/10
  • The general decor of the place is really tatty.
  • The cockroach that stood between me and the pool until it decided to scuttle off was not the last one I saw.
  • The colour of the water in the children's pool suggested it was 85% urine.
Water: 2/10
  • Salty
  • Warmer than the Tasman Sea at Bondi this morning, but still quite cold.
  • Made my cousin's eyes sting when she swam a length without goggles.
Setting: 10/10
  • Swimming in one direction you are heading towards the highly disturbing face that forms the gape-mouthed entrance to Luna Park
  • Swimming in the other direction, you are swimming towards the Harbour Bridge, as the pool has been built right up against one of the support pillars. Whatever else the weaknesses that this neglected pool has, location is not one of them.
  • The pool is 30 seconds from Milton Point ferry stop, so the journey to the Pool is a great one, taking you by ferry from Circular Quay, and under the Bridge, giving you a great view of the bridge climbers.
Other Facilities 0/10

Anything else that was supposed to be available was closed. Going back to the theme of not noticing something until it isn't there, the deep end did not even have a ledge to stand on, despite being 3.9 metres!
