The overnight train to Tbilisi was a classic Soviet-era train.
No air conditioning.
A boiling samovar at each end of the carriage.
Way too many curtains for comfort and the window in our carriage was nailed shut.
Nonetheless we got some sleep and the border crossing into Georgia was well into the next morning. This meant there were no unpleasant 4am intrusions from border officials still playing out their role in the Cold War.
