S&M for Monks

The Gallurus Oratory looks like an upturned boat.

It is a dry stone building, used as a church the original features are all left intact. After a few days wandering over historical sites and a few months of watching Time Team, I was getting the hang of spotting interesting features and interpreting them for myself. For example are these door hinges or S&M features for the 13th Century monks?

Now as I said before AV is ubiquitous. There are times though when you need to be careful about who is offering the AV. At The Oratory enterprising farmer has built a visitors centre, gift shop and AV cinema. This lies in between the road and The Oratory.

What you discover when you arrive at the field with The Oratory in it is that the building you have come to see is itself on public land. You can get in with your OPW card. The AV is an entirely separate business. Very entrepreneurial!
