Mad for the Ay-Vee

The Irish are mad for many things.

Mad for the Craic; Mad for the Guinness; Mad for the GAA.

Their museum curators are also mad for the AV.

The AV. The audio-visual. Very few sites went without the old AV. On arrival at any place of interest you get your ticket. You get your leaflet and then you are told where the AV is and what it would show you.

Sometimes there seemed to be an inverse relation between the site and the length of the AV. For example the Oratory and Dunbeg Fort are relatively wee places, but their AVs ran over 20 minutes each.

There wasn’t any of it that I didn’t find interesting. Though I did get led through the finer details of roof corbelling perhaps once more than I needed to be!
