This is where St Paul was converted to Christianity

The road to Damascus.

It's well travelled what with Damascus having existed for the entirety of recorded history.

When you Walk the streets of the World's oldest inhabited city you are walking in a lot of footsteps.

Syria is proud to be a secular country. The Muslim Brotherhood was brutally put down when they tried to foment a governmental overthrow. Most Syrians we met were proud of their faith and proud of their tolerance towards the faith of others.

But Syria is not a country where people just believe in religion. Damascus is not just a city where people practise their faith.

I found my perspective on the bible changed somewhat when we were told "This archway is the one that St Paul knelt in as he was converted to Christianity. This is the altar where he had his first communion. This is the window in the city walls that St Paul escaped Damascus from".

The Bible is not a story to the people of Damascus. It is the story of their home, an ancient life lived around them.
