Country 64: Palestine: King Of The Hill



And so to the Palestinian controlled West Bank and a famililar issue.

As I was driven up to the ruins at Herodion, my Palestinian taxi driver pointed out the Israeli settlement on the horizon.

Just as the Dome of Rock is built on top of the Jewish Temple, the Israeli settlers play 'King of the Hill' across Palestine.

Settlements are built on the top of hills, the roads between them that go through the valleys are ruled out of bounds to Palestinians. And out of sight just off the edge of this photo is the Israeli army base, bristling with tank snouts all pointed out from the settlement and directly at Bethlehem.

    That kind of sums Israel up right there. A fascinating place to visit but you can see the intractability right there in front of you.
