Iceland is cold in January

Iceland benefits from the gulf Stream, keeping temperatures moderately warm given it's lattitude.

The January average temperature is 2 degrees and in July it is 12 degrees.

The highest ever recorded temperature is 21 degrees.

I know this because on a coach trip out of Reykjavik the guide told everyone on the coach that these temperatures did not take into account the wind chill.

As I stood admiring the view of the Gullfoss waterfall... A partly frozen over waterfall... with the wind blowing straight into my unprotected face, the wind chill was apparently minus 18 degrees.

No wonder my cheeks are glowing red!
