Why do Americans do that... Ruining the Geysir


Sitting on top of a tectonic rift can be pretty explosive.

Just down the road from the Gullfoss Waterfall is the Geysir.

Yes. THE Geysir. The one that all the other ones in the World are named after. It used to spew hot water very high into the air on a very regular basis. If you want precise measurements then google it :)

Then a few years ago an American tourist decided that he couldn't wait for the Geysir to do it's thing so threw a pebble into the hole hoping to provoke it into an explosion.

Sadly the Geysir is not a Death Star, so rather then exploding, the pebble has instead blocked the channel of hot water inside the Geysir, so it no longer spews at all. If anyone were to try to dislodge the pebble they would of course instantly have all their flesh melted off their body by an eruption of scalding water.

Now why did an American have to do that?
