Hong Kong: Where is the view?

This is a continuation of my diary from my RTW trip from November 2003.

The first bit of advice to give to anyone thinking of going to Hong Kong is about the dual use of the name and a bit of geography. Hong Kong is the name given to the whole region previously administered by the British, as well as being the name of the main Island in the territory.

All in there are over 200 islands and a large chunk of mainland included in Hong Kong territory.
The famous skyline of the city lies on the North side of Hong Kong Island, facing across the harbour to Kowloon. So if you want a view of the skyscrapers, then find a hotel in Kowloon, looking South. If you want to be in the skyline, then stay in HK Island!

None of the guidebooks made it clear and I found it a bit frustrating when trying to book accommodation. Hope it helps :)
