Pool Review 1: Cook & Phillip Park @ Hyde Park

Sydney has more Olympic length swimming pols than the whole of the United Kingdom.

You can see the impact in the Swimming medal table at any Olympics. During my holiday in Sydney I hope to use four of them so I get a chance to compare them.

Cook & Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Hyde Park 34/50

Costs: 8/10
  • $4.50 Great value.
  • Lockers: $2, which you do not get back.
Hygiene: 7/10
  • Basic shower facilities, but clean and functional
Water: 5/10
  • The water tastes a bit odd, but I put that down to the Aussies using a different type of chlorine.
  • Freezing cold! I see why my South African friend in London complains that the Crystal Palace pool is to hot for her... this water took some serious willpower to get into.
Setting: 9/10

Architecturally a gem, this pool is submerged in the plaza outside the front of Sydney's Cathedral. This gives the Cathedral a lovely wide open space in front of it, and provides Central Sydney with a great pool. The location by Hyde Park is very convenient for most visitors, as it is a short distance from most hotels.

Other facilities: 5/10

There was a gym and a children's pool
