You can see the impact in the Swimming medal table at any Olympics. During my holiday in Sydney I hope to use four of them so I get a chance to compare them.
Cook & Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Hyde Park 34/50
Costs: 8/10
- $4.50 Great value.
- Lockers: $2, which you do not get back.
Hygiene: 7/10
- Basic shower facilities, but clean and functional
Water: 5/10
- The water tastes a bit odd, but I put that down to the Aussies using a different type of chlorine.
- Freezing cold! I see why my South African friend in London complains that the Crystal Palace pool is to hot for her... this water took some serious willpower to get into.
Setting: 9/10
Architecturally a gem, this pool is submerged in the plaza outside the front of Sydney's Cathedral. This gives the Cathedral a lovely wide open space in front of it, and provides Central Sydney with a great pool. The location by Hyde Park is very convenient for most visitors, as it is a short distance from most hotels.
Other facilities: 5/10
There was a gym and a children's pool
