The costs of saying no

Armenia is in a tough neighbourhood.

Over the days in Armenia it became clear that this is a country that has had to bob and weave and duck and dive it’s way through history.

Armenia was one of the first countries to convert to Christianity and their story of national struggle is tightly intertwined with this faith. The country has many churches with some dating back to the 6th and 7th Centuries and all of them have a story to tell.

Just outside Yerevan for example is one church dedicated to the memory of a Nun who was wooed by two Kings. Turning them both down in turn because she was married already to God, she was brutally tortured and murdered for her faith. Her remains were in the crypt of this quiet church on the road to Zvartnots.
