In August 2008, the Azeri Police arrested and questioned all 43 Azeris who called or texted the number to vote for the Armenian Eurovision entry. Voters were accused of being ‘unpatriotic’ and a threat to national security. They had to sign statements saying they lacked ethnic pride.
1065 Armenians voted for Azerbaijan, apparently without consequence.
For the record, Azerbaijan finished 3rd while Armenia finished 10th.
