Another lunch, another monastery church.
Geghard is a beautiful complex. A maze of rooms on the ground floor have been nestled into the Cliffside to venerate a spring of water which flows from the rock.
A second storey has been hewn out of the mountain. At one point there is a tiny hole in the floor of the second storey which allows you to see down into the ground floor.
The extraordinary thing about this hole is the acoustic opportunity it provides. If you stand in one precise spot in the second floor and sing, the whole of the church is filled with the sound.
After taking a good four or five minutes for anyone in our group to pick up the nerve to sing, we then all took it in turns to run downstairs and hear this astonishing effect for ourselves.
Truly a small moment of bliss.
