Imagine if the Thames had a gorge

An unusual feature for a city.

I found it quite hard to get a grip on the geography of Tbilisi from the map before we arrived. Being in the city I understood better why that was so. Built at the bottom of a steep sided valley the city can’t be understood without the sense of height.

And at the heart of the city, running between the Old City and the Mehteki Church, the river funnels through a steep sided gorge.

It gives Tbilisi a fairly unique topgography. I'm not sure I'd fancy living in one of those houses supported by stilts though!
