Monastery Ruins

Time for another hidden gem.

The Lonely Planet guides are pretty good but they are never comprehensive and you should never close your mind to sights that are not advertised as the ‘must dos’ just because a previous visitor to the area was commissioned to write about the place!

And so we came across the ruins of a monastery. Down a single path route densely overgrown on either side. With an entrance almost hidden by mombretia which we drove past twice.

Essentially all that remains is a floor plan of the foundations along with a guide map to the use of the different spaces. It was interesting to see where the Monks lived and worked. It was nice too to find somewhere that no-one else was visiting in an area full of tourists.
