Other tourists!

Where are you guys from?!

As we arrived at the Shirvanshah Palace we were hailed.

Americans. Two of them. From Boston so it could have been worse.

Turned out they had been in Baku for two days and had not seen any other tourists. By which they must have meant white people because we had seen loads of people looking over tourist sites. This is the second time in as many years that I've come across Americans having anxiety about being out of sight of people of European extraction. Weird.

We swapped some pleasantries about what we'd seen so far, what Tbilisi was like (they had come from there). And then we wished them well and we went our separate ways.
